Showpiece
Banknotes are the showpiece of a country. They have to look beautiful and representative. They must be protected from forgery and the production costs must remain low. In almost every country in the world, banknotes are printed by the Central Bank. Joh. Enschedé has always printed the banknotes of the State of the Netherlands, except for a few periods in history. The first banknote was printed as early as 1814.
Production and design
Joh. Enschedé is a certified printed of euro notes. We mainly print euro notes for De Nederlandsche Bank and four other countries. We also print banknotes for non-European Central Banks. Not only do we print many of these notes, we design them as well. As we always work with renowned designers, we have enjoyed a very good reputation in the field of printing and design for years.
Best possible advice
Design and production are often laid down in a single contract. Experience has taught us that it can be cheaper to separate design and production. Our consultants will be happy to provide appropriate advice for this. An example of this is the fact that we designed the new series of banknotes for Macau; these were, however, printed in Hong Kong. In these cases, we will supply the printing materials to the Central Bank in question; in turn, they can outsource production in the best possible manner.
